WELCOME TO OUR OUTPORT NEWFOUNDLAND FAMILY HISTORY PAGE

We are the Bessey family who grew up in small towns near Pistlet Bay on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula in Northern Newfoundland. We are hoping to save family stories and history from being completely forgotten and also hope that this information shown on this webpage will give you an idea of what life was like in the 1800s in rural Newfoundland.

I also tell stories and problems we encounter when researching history in general and hope that people researching genealogy will find things of interest also.

My 4x great grandmother was a pure Beothuk Indian who lived in the wilderness in Pistlet Bay. She had a baby for a wealthy french doctor who was an outlaw running from authorities after his activities during the 1848 french revolution. We also tell as many small stories and tidbits of our history as it gives a typical example of hardships and life in general in out port Newfoundland in the days before Television and internet (And roads or electricity)

I hope that you enjoy our stories and history of out port Newfoundland in the Olden days. You can email us at newfoundlandfamilytree@gmail.com
